With over 30 years experience working in the cartographic industry I am able to offer a wide range of skills whilst working
within set budgets and deadlines
Experience
Graduated from Portsmouth University in 1981 with a BA (Hons) degree in Geography.
4 years at Geoprojects UK Ltd (formerly David Fryers Ltd) 1981 - 1985 as a cartographic editor where I gained invaluable training in both traditional cartographic techniques and editorial skills. This involved working on a variety of titles including school atlases, wall maps and leisure maps for both the UK and Arab markets.
5 years at Macmillan Publishers Ltd 1985 - 1990 where I held the position of senior cartographic editor. I was responsible for project management including sourcing and overseeing external suppliers and liasing with advisors on a number of primary and secondary school atlases, wall maps and leisure maps for the African, Caribbean, Australian and UK markets.
8 months maternity cover at The Automobile
Association 2011 - 2012 as senior cartographic editor
responsible for several titles in their world travel guide series,
as well as assisting on road atlas publications and hotel
guides.
Since 1990 I have continued to work on a freelance
basis on a wide variety of projects including several dual and
multi-language editions and have recently been involved in the
creation of a new large scale world map database. Clients have
included: Lovell Johns Ltd, Macmillan Publishers Ltd, The AA,
Dorling Kindersley, Parragon Books, Oxford University Press,
Collins Bartholomew and The Future Mapping
Company.
